The Countdown is On…
It’s 25 days until we leave the country (yikes!) and our plans are finally coming together. We have altered our original itinerary due to our volunteer experience in Southeast Asia and we are excited to spend almost four months getting to explore that region.
On January 12, we will board a bright and early flight in Miami to embark on the longest travel day of our lives. Miami>New York>Hong Kong>Bangkok. Our plans have us in Bangkok for a few nights before heading to Khao Sok National Park in Thailand where we will stay for a few nights. We are excited to hike in Thailand and will also have the chance to boat on Cheow Larn Lake and stay overnight in a floating bungalow on the lake!
After Khao Sok, we will travel north to Chiang Mai to explore the city before our week-long volunteer orientation at the end of January. I’m looking forward to spicy Thai food, cheap Thai massages and a cooking class or two.
From there, we will head directly to Phnom Penh, Cambodia to find a place to live and begin our volunteer experience. Dave and I have both been placed with organizations that focus on empowering youth in Cambodia. More to come in a later post about why we chose Cambodia and the recent history of the country.
After Cambodia, we plan to spend some time in Japan before heading down under for a couple of months between New Zealand and Australia. That bring us to July 2013…time is already going by too fast!
We’ve created a Facebook page for Do What You Want Trips to make it easier to post quick stories and updates while we travel. Hope to see you there!
